WARNING! At the time of this release, bsnes and SNESGT are the only Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) emulators that have been verified as capable of playing Der Langrisser.

ZSNES, SNES9x and SNEeSe all contain bugs in their sound emulation engines that will cause Der Langrisser to sporadically slow down and lock up during gameplay. These crashes occur roughly every half hour, and the use of fast forward features will exacerbate this problem. Once this bug is triggered, the game will lock completely. It is impossible to recover, and you will lose all unsaved progress.

For ZSNES users, a known workaround is to disable “Stereo Sound” through the sound configuration window, though this will result in technically inferior monaural sound output. There is no known workaround for SNES9x nor SNEeSe.

The player hereby understands he is using these emulators at his own risk, and that we strongly discourage the use of these to play Der Langrisser.

Note that Der Langrisser has been thoroughly tested on actual SNES hardware, and is verified to function correctly. If you have access to a flash cart or console copier, this is undoubtedly the best way to experience the game.

Patches

The current patch version is 1.02 released on Tuesday, April 1, 2008. Happy anniversary!

The patch is available in UPS format only. UPS is a new file patching format developed by byuu. A pre-compiled Windows patcher is available from his Web site, along with source code. A Linux binary for Ubuntu users is available from the CinnamonPirate.com Repository. daemoncollector has released an OSX port for Cocoa.

Release 1.02 is a public beta release which includes debug codes for the bsnes and ZSNES SNES emulators. The codes are intended to help users trigger unexpected events and reveal any final dialogue errors or glitches. We will attempt to repair glitches reported by users to exist in only the English game for the final release. Please review the included readme.txt file for details.

Instruction Manual

An English instruction manual is included in the above patches. It can be viewed with any Adobe Acrobat PDF viewer. You can get a free PDF viewer for your system from Adobe’s Web site. For Linux users aiming to avoid “non-free” software (whatever the hell that means), the manual has been tested with Evince 0.8.1. Lower versions are known to have font rendering errors. Ubuntu/Debian users can install it with `#apt-get install evince`.
