Problems with Mac patcher

Many users have reported having problems getting the patch to apply on Mac systems. I’m not sure what the problem is, but there does seem to be a fix. If you check the README, it explains that you can specify the target file on the command line. Apparently many users believed this only applied to the Windows executable and never attempted it.

Big mistake.

This method has been tested to work for many people experiencing various patching problems:

  • Open Darwin. If you don’t have Darwin, get it. Refer to your Apple documentation.
  • Change to the folder where you have stored the Der Langrisser patcher and dl_j.smc. If it is on your desktop, then enter the command “cd ~/Desktop.”
  • Type the following command line: ./patch dl_j.smc.
  • This should give you a success message and create dl_e.smc. If it does not, you can try this command line: ./patch dl_j.smc dl_e.smc.

Enjoy the game. If it still doesn’t work, I suggest you download DOSBox and try patching with the DOS executable.

DOSBox doesn’t work with the DOS executable. Also YOU HAVE NOT left any instructions on HOW to use the DOS executable with DOSBox. Which makes it impossible to patch!

Can’t you just make an IPS version of the patch? Seriously, it would make patching this game easier than using DOSBox or your fancy fucking program!

Judging by your attitude, you must be a Mac user.

Can’t figure out how to use Darwin? Guess you won’t be playing Der Langrisser. That’s what you get for picking such an odd-ass OS :P

The PowerPC build ran fine to patch the game for Madmalkav, who built it for us, and the Intel one worked fine for my brother, who built that one for us.

There’s not going to be an IPS file, and you can thank Cowering, author of GoodSNES, for that.

    Hi guys
I’d like to know how I could patch the the translation to the game Der Langrisser. I’m used to patching .ips files but the patch for the langrisser game is a .bin file.
    Could u please help me?

    Thanks.

My patch is for WindowsXP by the way.

The easiest way is to open the included README.TXT file. Generally, reading files named READ ME is important.

Had your bothered to read the file clearly marked READ ME, you’d know all you need to do is put “dl_j.smc” in the same folder as the EXE, then double click the EXE. Make sure it is a Der Langrisser 1.1 ROM, not 1.0.

If this doesn’t work, you can try reading the READ ME file to see how to use the Windows command prompt to run it.

It might help if, instead of “Open Darwin. If you don’t have Darwin, get it” you’d written “Open the Terminal application, located in /Applications/Utilities”. There’s nothing on a stock OS X installation labelled “Darwin”, and certainly nothing that can be opened or acquired.
